  7.     When Democratic Party chairman Ron Brown meets the press
  8. these days, the conversation invariably veers toward potential
  9. candidates for 1992. Brown refuses to offer names but tolerates
  10. a free-association game with reporters. Is Mario Cuomo
  11. considering running? "I would think so," Brown replies. Ditto
  12. for Bill Bradley, Al Gore and Dick Gephardt. But mention of
  13. Jesse Jackson elicits a more emphatic response. "My view is
  14. that Jesse will not run," says the chairman, who presumably
  15. knows Jackson's mind as well as anyone. In the next breath, he
  16. concedes that Jesse has a habit of zigging when Brown thought
  17. he would zag.
